In Uganda, the loss of a parent can shatter a child’s world leaving thousands alone, hungry, and forgotten.
However, at Ddembelyabato Orphanage School under VEROWGDEC, a beacon of hope shines through the darkness.
1 in 5 Ugandans live in extreme poverty, and 3.5 million fall below the food poverty line leaving them prone to
diseases like HIV/AIDS (5.8% adult prevalence), cholera (11,000 cases/year), typhoid, Malaria, Hepatitis B and measles.
It should also be noted that 56% of children lack access to basic needs, and 36% work by the age of 14 thus being forced into child labor while
thousands of children in Uganda become orphans after the death of there parents leaving them in gaps of limited accessibility to quality education, clothing and shelter.
Despite of all this, Uganda remains as one of the poorest countries in Africa, with a long history of political turmoil, human rights abuse and economic strife accompanied by periodic influxes of refugees.
Within this landscape, Ddembelyabato under VEROWGDEC offers more than relief. It offers transformation through faith, education and shelter to over 82 orphaned children currently.
Ddembelyabato is a Luganda word (Local Language) which means Children's rights. Ddembe is translated as Rights while Bato is translated as Children thus the name Ddembelyabato.
It should be noted that Ddembelyabato is under the umbrella of VEROWGDEC which is a registered Non Profit CBO 6828. This website primarily focuses on Ddembelyabato with a few highlights of VEROWGDEC
At 4 years, Fortunate & Benard became orphans. They scavenged for food, wore tattered clothes, and attended no school until Ddembelyabato Orphanage School welcomed them into a safe haven of worship, nutritious meals, education, and love.
Now, 82 children wake to worship songs, reading the Bible, enjoy nourishing meals, and receive quality education in a faith-filled environment.
“When I held these frightened children in my arms, I vowed that no one in our care would ever feel invisible again.”
Christine Ayesiza, Founder
